It was all a dream...

One night during the Christmas break, I had a vivid dream. I was walking past a residential construction site and saw three friends gathered around an iPad. 'What are you looking at?' I asked. 'It's our Beauteriffic App,' they replied. 'It's like having a canvas with all notebooks in one place, so we can compare notes, wishlists, and to-dos side-by-side as we build our house.'

I woke up and, within a week, built the first version of Beauteriffic (I know, terrible name, which I later changed to Folio). It was exactly what I needed to organize my life and work. I can create a canvas for each major project and start collecting related notebooks in a fully customizable environment.

The text is full markdown, so it's easy to edit and format (and export, because it's not proprietary). I can theme, resize and rearrange notebooks so that they fit together nicely.

Within a week, Beauteriffic became my primary tool for organizing both my personal and team projects, as well as managing the information repository for the book I'm writing.

What started as a dream quickly turned into reality with the creation of Beauteriffic, soon renamed Folio. It became indispensable for organizing both personal and professional life.

StoryMode storytime

After creating Folio, I began using it for various tasks: organizing my daily to-dos, managing a backlog of product initiatives, keeping track of TV shows and movie recommendations, and even organizing ideas for the sci-fi epic novel I was writing.

This particular use case inspired the creation of StoryMode. Building on Folio's foundation, I developed a specialized tool to assist authors in planning book projects and organizing notes, character sheets, timelines, and location maps.

We are already familiar with Notes & Folios, but their true power is in how they work together. When you mention a date or date range in your note, it automatically appears on your project's timeline.

To help ground your story, Map Mode allows users to effortlessly sketch the locations of their narrative, whether it's a haunted mansion or an entire fantasy world.

Crystal Lake

As a songwriter, I've always wanted an easy way to create lyric videos. Unfortunately, traditional video editors are either very limited (like iMovie) or require too many steps to accomplish something simple (like Premiere, etc.).

With this goal in mind, I developed a web-based Lyric Video generator called Crystal Lake:

With Crystal Lake, simply upload an MP3 of your song along with images, video clips, or GIFs, and the platform will generate a lyric video in minutes, styled to your preference.

It uses AI to extract lyrics and align them precisely with the song, allowing you to customize the layout, choose a theme that matches the mood, and utilize your computer's GPU to render the video quickly.

Here's just a few examples from the official Avenues YouTube channel:

Slower art

Inspired by the philosopher and podcaster Nate DiMeio, I wrote the Slower Art Manifesto in 2018, and started to develop tools to help people appreciate art galleries and museums on a deeper level.

I developed a tailored content management system with Contentful and hosted it as a static site on Netlify. Over time, I've curated hundreds of YouTube and podcast stories about well-known artworks. These stories are arranged around physical locations, enabling art lovers to visit galleries and enjoy captivating narratives about the artworks they view.

As advancements in GenAI progressed, the next logical step was to leverage image recognition, LLM knowledge, and voice synthesis to provide narratives for artworks lacking human-created stories.

I designed and created Museio.AI, which is a web-based app that anyone can use to:

  • Open inside of an art gallery
  • Take a photo of the painting that's in front of them
  • AI will analyze and identify the work of art
  • User can choose to hear an art history story, a short bio on the painter or a fun fact
  • The app will generate a short 3-4 min audio that user can listen to instantly
